Valorant is switching to Unreal Engine 5
Riot Games has announced that Valorant will be updated with Unreal Engine 5. Anna Donlon, Head of Valorant Studios, said that the developers are making the most of Unreal Engine 4. Accordingly, the transition to UE5 is necessary for the popular tactical shooter to continue to grow.
Valorant’s visuals and performance are not expected to change dramatically. However, Donlon said that the engine upgrade will pave the way for future graphical improvements. More interestingly, Riot Games will be releasing new playable experiences for Valorant once the UE5 transition is complete.
These “new enhancements” suggest that the company is looking to expand the Valorant universe beyond the current modes. Users think that a Fortnite-like structure could be adopted in this regard. Limited-time modes such as party royale in Fortnite could come to Valorant.
The engine upgrade is very important for the free-to-play production. It also shows that Riot Games is looking to continue investing in and developing Valorant for years to come. Of course, it’s unclear when this transition will take place.
On the other hand, the company recently announced the Valorant open beta for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. It made some adjustments to make the controls work similarly on gamepad and keyboard+mouse
